Sounds like a good idea Ian, okay, it's time to get our thinking
caps on again! Please feel free to send in your suggestions & I'll
create a poll at a later date.

I've always referred to the APT-E as 'E-Train' so I think I'll go
for that or maybe TSB (Tilting Silver Bullet!) nah, I absolutely
hate the TSB bank so I'll scrap that one!

Take Care,

Is it up to the owner to report it? It's abuse of copyright, so why can't
anyone report it?

Hello all,
There appears to be a lot of photo theft off the internet. Apparently the
Daily Sport (No, I don't read it) nicks pictures people have altered and
puts them in the paper. They then sell these images for mobile phones!

I don't suppose so, but that isn't really the point...

There's no reason at all why website owner shouldn't sell photos that he or
she holds the copyright for. I've just been looking at the pictures of the
opening of the HMRS Permanent HQ at Butterley, and I notice there is a "buy"
option for each one:
http://gallery6801.fotopic.net/c468550.html

What you can't do is go around selling stuff that isn't yours (and being
"up-front" and telling people you don't own the copyright yourself doesn't
make it OK, either).

That's not an opinion, by the way, it's the law.

Howard.

So it was!

I've just looked up eBay policy on copyright - here it is:

eBay Guideline:
Contrary to popular belief, the fact that material is posted on the world wide web does not mean it is in the "public domain" or otherwise free to be taken, copied or used by others. Creators of web content probably have copyright, trademark and other rights in the material they create. Copying, modifying and possibly linking to content created by others could expose you to legal liability.

eBay Guideline:
No Copying Allowed! When you prepare your auction listings you generally should use only material (text, photographs, etc.) and trademarks/names that you created or own yourself or licensed from the owners.

Gerry

Naughty chap! I've sent a "friendly" word of advice to Limacollector about
the APT pics.

"Hi there. Bit of friendly advice needed here, I think. I don't think you
realise that selling other peoples pictures is illegal unless you have the
express permission of the copyright holder (i.e. the original photographer).

Just because a picture is on the net, it is not public domain and the same
copyright laws apply here, as for printed material.

As one who has a large collection of photos on the web (including quite a
few of APT-E), I would be most put out if my pictures were being sold on
without first asking. A couple of these auctions have attracted the
attention of an APT newsgroup and is causing some concern."

Fotopic do a "Buy it now" option on their photos for prints, the difference
being that this one of the conditions of their site hosting.

Paying members are entitled to a cut of any prints sold. Non paying members
just accept this as a small price to pay for their excellent hosting
services.

Hi all,
Id just like to say that all the material on the E train website,
www.apt-e.org is copyrighted, and displayed with the said persons or
organisations permission.

Any shots taken by myself and would be only to please to share with
others, as long as they ask me first.

The guy ripping off the shots taken on ebay has nothing to do with
the E train group, and I do not support his actions in any shape or
form.

Sadly the horns are from APT-P, Rob gave me the recording when I

I do have some E train horns so I really should change the wav files

odd.

Sound a bit higher in pitch, don't they.

Check out BTF's "Rail 150" - the APT-E is the opening sequence but they
sound a bit manic (clip originally used in E for Experimental)

The horns at the begining of Rauil 150 are in deed correct, they
sound more like a high pitch whale than a horn.

We have had the real ones working on E train a year or so ago.

Probably because they were.......

You could never tell what the horns were going to sound like from one day
to the next. Water in the air supply and various valving maladies being but
two possible causes of this. Sometimes they were so strangled you felt like
getting up on the roof and giving them a good kick. I think Brian Porter
did exactly that on a few occasions <g>

I can't tell you the names of the nice ladies but they were certainly employees at BR Research, Derby.

My Instrumentation Section colleagues Malcolm and Derek (beard) are very prominent on board the train. Unfortunately the commentary appears to credit them with the design of the train. Not so, of course! We were only responsible for designing and operating the instrumentation which monitored the performance and condition of the train's systems.

Hi all,
The ait horns on E train were just behind the cab in the exhaust
covers, ie on the roof, thats why they got wet, and often got stuck
open and stopped the train as the air was used faster than the
compressor could keep up with, hence the brakes came on.

Problem solved with a hammer or a boot, they put a shut off valve
in the cab in case they got stuck open.

Paul

Gerry et al,

My wife Mary can't recognise them either, but I think the one walking down
TC1 was Cathy Someoneorther <g> Note that sequence was taken WELL before
we'd trimmed out TC1, only a few seats are installed.

All that film was taken either before or during the First Run (25-7-72) as
the train is on it's SA bogies and there are no auxiliary vents in the
Power Cars. The driver featured is Bill Tretton, who drove the train for
that first run.

The 'Malcolm' that Gerry mentions is Malc Wilson, one of the funniest guys
on the project and a really good friend of mine when I was there. He and I
used E-Train to get to a Rod Stewart concert at the Granby Halls in
Leicester one night............... <g>

Roy Hartle was Head of Instrumentation at the time as I recall. Didn't he
become Head of Field Trials later, Gerry? I know Roy was at the RTC long
after I'd left BR.

Hi All,
Ive just posted a medium quality video of E trains moves to Shildon.

High res and low res versions will follow later in the week.

I hope you enjoy this 9 minute presentation, and get a feeling of all
the hard work into moving her to Shildon.

Very nice. I can't wait for the high-res version. Is there any chance
you could eliminate the graphics top left and top right (first half)?

The power car travelling down the M-way on the back of that transporter
looks like a fish out of water!

I really must go see that magnificent machine.

Hi Alan,
Im looking into that, but the person who recorded it had it turned on,
but I maybe able to turn the clips into something like 14:9 and cut
the top and bottom off. Its worth a try anyway.

Glad you enjoyed the clips, Ive got a full screen DVD version, but a
bit big at 110 meg!!!

Ok if you have the download speed.

Paul

I just downloaded the high-res version - it took just 3 minutes 8
seconds on my 1Mb broadband connection.

The higher resolution really improves the experience, especially when
using full screen playback.

I really cannot wait for the other 3hrs 51mins or so!

Excellent stuff. A round of applause to you sir.
