Hmm, that rings a bell somewhere. I have an idea it was in the hallway of
Euston House at one time. Naturally it isn't '....a High Speed Train.....',
it's APT-E but let's not get pedantic about it <g>

I think it's pushing things a bit to call Richard Marsh a 'BR folk' though,

Odd that it had zero bids, the auction was closed and the 'final bid' was
$10.....

I think that's the same type of model that the NRM have in the display case

Hm, it's a pity that Hastings Diesels Ltd, don't answer emails or phone
calls. I've tried numerous times to contact them about Hastings Coach to
see what their plans were, to no avail. It seems there are no plans, and
one of THE most significant tilting vehicles in the UK will get scrapped on
the usual basis of money..

One day's notice is hardly enough time to do anything about it really.

Further to this I emailed Ian Butler, who subsequently phoned me about it.
It seems the villains are Railtrack Mk 2, who have raised Hastings Diesel's
rent so far that they have to take on lots more work to keep their site.
Thus Hastings Coach has to go as they need the space.

There's some vague hopes that some preservation group in the SE will find
some room for it, and it's sale price is £1......

That isn't a misprint, ONE pound Sterling. You bave to move it yourself
though, and before mid-March and you have to let them know TODAY!

A little tight I feel.....

Hehe, of course that's returning it to it'soriginal use as it was the
Buffet Car in the Hither GReen crash Hasting set. As it was the only
undamaged vehicle after the crash it was surplus to requirements and ended
up as a paint store at Micheldever. Stuart Dick found it, and David Grant
and I 'raided' the yard one afternoon to confirm it was what TOPS said it
was, much to the yards staff's amazement. The rest, as they say, is

I suppose they could sell coffee and tea un-stirred and use the tilt system
to stir it.......

It does seem a trifle odd. I forsee a quick trip to Walthmastow to see if
they are going to retain any of it's tiltability, and if not I'd rather
like to grab the Mk3 tilt pack for posterity.

Checking the web site shows a bit of an anomoly. It seems to say that they
are showing two episodes at the same time.

Episode 9 showing 'Mangaps (?), St. Pancras, CTRL and Cross Country' is on
at 2100 hrs and Episode 10 showing 'APT, Westerns, Groudle Glen (from the
sublime to......) and St. Philips Marsh' is on at..................2100

They must mean 2130 actually, looking at other schedules.

Nick,

I emailed Ian Butler about this last night and his reply says that the are
planning to leave most of the equipment 'as is' and just modify the VIP
compartment to act as a buffet. They plan to form an owners group for the
vehicle, which I'm strongly thinking of joining.

The hydraulic pack would seem to be still there from Ian's description, but
the H4X boges would be easy to modify from their original APT-P
configurtion to non-tilting, either by replacing the tilt jacks with solid
struts or by mounting struts in parallel with the jacks.

I'm going to try and take a look at Hastings next week, if they'll let me,
as I'm passing close by on the Tuesday.

Hi all,
Ive just spoken to Kit about his trip to go and see Hastings.
Glad to say that its in pretty good shape all in all, but needs some
attention to one side, nothing that a bit of graft wouldnt fix.

When he gets time, he's gonna try and post more information on here.

At least Hastings is saved.

Should items from commercial publications be posted without acknowledgement? Is permission needed or been given?

You should at least say from where it came, but in my production of
the APT-E site, all of the publishers really didnt give a hoot about
asking for permission, but I asked anyway.

Subject: Lab 4
Hello people!
Lab 4 will be arriving at The Pump House sometime tomorrow, Allelys
will be doing the delivery but they have not given us a time yet
although they will be giving us a blow by blow account of where they
are.
Ring Ring - we are just on the A406
Ring Ring - we have just left the A406
Ring Ring - we are 2 miles away
Ring Ring - we are at the end of the road....
You get the picture :-) Will post another message tomorrow as soon as
it is safely in the site.
I am now off to do some p-way.

Ian Butler phoned me earlier today to say the move had been postponed for a
week. I don't know the reasons but I'm sure we'll fiund out eventually.

It's a bit of a pity for me as I'm working only about 10 miles away from
the Pump House this week and I could have got some 'in transit' photos. I
can see some 'Creative Scheduling' comin on to get me back here at the end
of next week <g>

Yes, Mick Northfield (the man at our end :-) ) got me to phone up
Hastings Diesels and I spoke to Ian, Apparently the trailer had the
tires ripped out last night on the way back from Calais, for some
strange reason they don't work with no tires..... :-D
Oh well at least all the p-way is done now... It was very hot work
Anyway it should be arriving next Thursday.
