The narrow profile of this former Hastings line coach made it an ideal test-bed for experiments into the tilting suspension system, as a the vehicle body could be tilted 6° whilst still remaining within the standard loading gauge. It has been fitted with a bogie and tilt system designed using results obtained from the successful running of APT-E, the experimental train which has proved the fundamental principles of the Advanced Passenger Train concept.
